ATI X800 XL 512MB

The Tech Report -- TWO MONTHS AGO, ATI demoed a Radeon X850 XT graphics card with 512MB of graphics memory. It was a technology preview rather than an actual product launch, but that didn't stop NVIDIA from following up with a 512MB version of the GeForce 6800 Ultra. In fact, a number of manufacturers have already signed on to produce the GeForce 6800 Ultra 512MB, but at around $900 a pop, the card treads in Extreme Edition territory, beyond the budgets of most gamers and enthusiasts. What if you could get a 512MB graphics card for half that price? Today ATI is announcing a 512MB flavor of its Radeon X800 XL. The card packs dual DVI outputs, video in and out capabilities, and twice the memory of the standard X800 XL for only $450. But does the extra graphics memory actually improve performance?

ATI 8.30.3 Display Drivers

Phoronix -- There have been a swirl of speculations as to whether AMD will open-source the ATI Linux fglrx display drivers, and today the first display driver (8.30.3) is being pushed out after the completion of the ATI and AMD acquisition. But are these drivers still closed-source? Has any new information hit the wire about these rumors? We have the ATI fglrx 8.30.3 display drivers in our hands today to tell you all of the details.

ATI Catalyst 5.6 Preview

Driverheaven -- The last time we wrote about a Catalyst release was the launch of the Catalyst AI feature quite a few months ago. We were very positive about the drivers then as they were completely stable with an excellent performance threshold. Since then ATI have been busy providing end users with additional performance and some bug fixes whilst behind the scenes they have been working hard on some new features and that's what we're previewing today.

ATI Radeon HD 4550

Legit Reviews -- The ATI Radeon HD 4550 (RV710) graphics card pictured above measures in at just 6.625" in length and while it is a full height card it shouldn't have any issues fitting in nearly all of the cases on the market today. The very first thing that one notices with this graphics card is the lack of a heat sink and that is because this card only uses 20-25W and doesn't need a fan to keep it cooling. Under the heat spreader is a graphics core that has just 80 stream processors. This is far fewer than the 320 stream processors that can be found on a Radeon HD 4670 graphics card. Even with 80 stream processors the Radeon HD 4550 offers 96 GFLOPS of compute power, which isn't bad considering the MSRP on these cards will be between $45-$55!

ATI 8.24.8 Display Drivers

Phoronix -- Of ATI's likely 12 or 13 driver releases this year, the release coming out today should prove to be a very memorable moment for the red. Ahh... the sight of Radeon X1000 cards being powered by Linux; yes, the day has finally come! Among many other articles coming out today at Phoronix to commemorate this v8.24.8 ATI release is our driver examination.

ATI AIW X1800XL 256MB

Driverheaven -- You could also compare it to a TV card with roughly the same features, however there really isn't any direct competition ... there no other product which does the same thing (a compliment to how well ATI have done in the design and performance of previous models). So whilst the release of this card should excite the gamer's and multimedia enthusiasts amongst you it's a real headache for us reviewers who have to write about it and give you an indication of just how good or bad it is.
