bit-tech -- Many hardware enthusiasts have been waiting for AMD’s response to Nvidia’s GeForce 8800 family of graphics processors before deciding which company would get their hard earned cash. However, that wait has been a long one – well over six months in fact – and a lot of enthusiasts got fed up and bought a GeForce 8800-series card.

 

TweakTown -- Ok we’re a little slow sometimes, we won’t deny that. Why review a 1GB HD 2900 XT card when the new 3870 is out? Ultimately though, what the 8800GT and HD 3870 has done to these other high-end cards is make them worth absolutely bugger all on the second hand market. What this means is you can really pick up a bargain.

Rojak Pot -- Launched on May 14, 2007, the Radeon HD 2900 XT is the first of ATI's new HD 2000 series of desktop graphics cards. Based on the long-awaited (and long-delayed) R600 VPU, this makes it the first ATI desktop graphics to support DirectX 10. Like its rivals from NVIDIA, it features a massively-parallel unified architecture with general-purpose stream processors, instead of dedicated pixel and vertex shaders.

techPowerUp -- AMD's new flagship video card is the Radeon HD 2900 XT which is based on the brand-new R600 GPU. It comes at an amazing $399 price point and offers many unique features. While performance may not be as fast as the GeForce 8800 GTX, its price will definitely make this card a good choice for users who are looking for the best price/performance ratio.

TweakTown -- The initial drivers were nothing to get excited about and made the performance overall look pretty ordinary. The biggest problem though is that it seems most people have already made up their minds - I will not lie to you, I had. I honestly saw the initial test results and thought the card was a joke considering how long we had been waiting for it.

Hexus -- AMD introduced its Radeon HD 2900 XT three months ago, and it pitched it as a value-orientated high-end part, with partners pricing their retail packages at between £250-£275. As normally happens with a new technology, supply firms up in the subsequent weeks, and the price, inevitably, drops. Now, three months on, Radeon HD 2900 XTs can be purchased for £230, so it's high time that we took a look at the largest AIB's offering - the Sapphire Radeon HD 2900 XT.

Technic 3D -- The PowerColor Radeon HD 2900 XT arrived Technic3D. The new Graphic Card with R600 Chip from AMD better than the NVIDIA High-End Graphic Cards? Technic3D will see that, with Overclocking, in the following Review.

TrustedReviews -- I like the Radeon HD 2900 XT, I really do. The underlying technology inherent in this card shows that the engineers at AMD are still working overtime to create efficient and effective 3D hardware, rather than just going for the brute force approach. However, when you consider that a GeForce 8800 GTS will cost you considerably less and give you very similar performance, it’s hard to recommend this latest Radeon. All I hope is that once the launch frenzy is over, the price will drop in line with nVidia’s part, and then the choice between the two will be far tougher.

HOTHardware -- On some levels, the R600 borrows technology from the Radeon X1000 series and the Xenos GPU found in the Xbox360, but there is plenty of new technology employed in this GPU as well. The R600 has a new command processor that processes command streams from the graphics driver and can reduce overhead by as much as 30%. There is also a new setup engine that more efficiently prepares data for processing by the stream processing units. Also, there are 320 Stream Processing Units, beefed up texture units and render back-ends, or ROPs if you prefer.
