Frosty Tech -- The Zalman CNPS7700-Cu is one of the largest heatsinks in production by this Korean manufacturer, and like most Zalman coolers it is squarely aimed at low noise operation. The CNPS7700-Cu is an extension of the CNPS7000-Cu series, though it is about 30mm larger in total diameter, and weighs in at a hefty 918 grams. The heatsink is compatible with socket 478 & 775 Intel Pentium and Core 2 Duo processors, and socket 754/939/940 & AM2 AMD Athlon64 chips. Zalman assemble the CNPS7700-Cu heatsink from about 60 individual copper fins which are joined together at the center; the metal fins are compressed under great pressure and bolted firmly together to create the resulting heatsink shape, sort of like advanced origami.
Hardware Logic -- Once considered the ultimate in geekdom, liquid cooling (also known as water cooling) has become almost mainstream. For those pushing the envelope, there's high performance (and high cost) kits from retailers such as Danger Den, DTek, or Swiftech. However, those kits usually require either a great deal of patience, or experience, during installation. For those less schooled in the art of exotic cooling, your choices are fairly limited. While there are no shortage of pre-fabbed kits, both internal and external, marketed at the novice, these kits usually forego quality to make themselves as easy to install and user friendly as possible.
Think Computers -- The last time we took a look at a cooler from Zalman it was way back in July! So it has been a while since we have seen Zalman's offerings. Today we will be taking a look at the CNPS9500 AM2 CPU Cooler which is compatible with AM2/754/939/940 AMD processors and features a pure copper heatsink and innovative curved heatpipe design for a heat transfer capacity of up to six heatpipes with the use of just three. Let's take a look and see how it compared to the other AM2 CPU coolers we have tested.
Frosty Tech -- Zalman introduced its ZM-MFC2 multi fan speed controller last year at CES, and the reason we're reviewing it today are three-fold. For starters, the Zalman ZM-MFC2 digitally monitors four fans to +/- 10RPM and displays that data in real time on a nice multi-coloured backlit LCD display. With it, you can set any speed from 60RPM to the maximum supported by the fan with a turn of the dial, for three 3-pin fans and one PWM fan.
Frosty Tech -- Zalman's CNPS9500 AT is identical in materials and size to previous CNPS9500-series heatsinks, but this heatsink is offered with a 4-pin PWM fan for Intel-based computer systems, rather than the standard 3-pin fan power cable. The heatsink is voluminous in size and weighs about 530grams. Like all heatsinks produced by Zalman, it's intended to operate quietly and efficiently without much noise. Because the Zalman CNPS9500 AT heatsink uses a Pulse Width Modulation fan, no FanMate2 fan speed controller is included with it - it's just not needed.
OCModShop -- Zalman computer products have been advertising the silencing factor of their products for many years. Most of their heatsinks are even packaged with their "Fanmate" to let the user adjust the fan's RPMs, thereby reducing the noise the fan produces. To achieve a virtually silent computer, some users have used several Fanmates or other rheostats to reduce noise, but since these devices are inside your computer they cannot be easily accessed to dynamically adjust.
This is where Fan Controllers come in, as they allow you to control several different fans from the front of your computer, and usually have an indicator of their performance. Zalman has released their ZM-MFC2 Multi Fan Controller, which is the evolution of their previous fan controller the ZM-MFC 1.
Zalman's has updated everything about this Fan Controller for the 21st century. The device not only supports 4 seperate fans and temperature sensors, but also tells you how much power your PC is using, and displays it all on a very bright, multi-colored VFD display, and each fan is controlled digitally via a jog dial and buttons!
